What the proficiency test is
The proficiency test is the practical shooting assessment the Brazilian Federal Police requires from anyone buying a firearm, or obtaining or renewing the CR (collector/shooter/hunter license), the CRAF (firearm registration) or a concealed carry permit. It measures safe handling, knowledge of the safety rules and performance on the target.
It is applied by a Firearms and Marksmanship Instructor (IAT) credentialed by the Federal Police. At the end you receive the REPORT — the document that supports your application.
Why I do not evaluate the students I trained
I cannot evaluate someone I am going to train, or already trained.
Under the Federal Police's impartiality requirements, candidates already scheduled for a technical-proficiency evaluation with me may not take preparatory training under my instruction. Likewise, students who train with me for the test may not be evaluated by me — they must take the official test with another credentialed IAT, who can be referred by the Harpia 33 team. What to bring on the day
- Photo ID (RG, driver's license or CIN) — foreign residents bring the CRNM or the RNE
- CPF (Brazilian taxpayer number)
- Recent proof of address
- Valid psychological aptitude report
- Your own hearing protection, if you have it (the range also provides it)
How it works
The test is booked at least 3 days in advance — that is the notice the rules give me to inform the Federal Police.
On the day, you take the written and the practical test at the same place. Ammunition is provided, original and factory-made.
The result comes out on the spot: you sign the target and the report is issued right after.
